OneNote being free is a comparatively new thing. Outlook already had its lightweight Notes module by then, and Vista was released while OneNote was still a paid app. It's worth noting that OneNote was originally a paid Office app, the first version of which was released in 2003. OneNote was originally developed separately and is absurdly more powerful than the Outlook/Vista type sticky notes. one files that each contain the data for one section. IMO sticky notes used to be a separate usage from quicknotes - I used quicknotes for sending things to onenote e.g. Quick Notes are stored in Unfiled Notes or the Quick Notes section at the bottom of the list of notebooks. If you use onenote on ios or ipad, it's got the sticky notes as part of it already! I'm so desperate to have them on windows and really hoping it comes sooner rather than later. A Quick Note is like an electronic sticky note. If you go to the onenote uservoice, it's for "onenote & sticky notes". Ensure that the settings in the Desktop & Android app have selected the same Quick Notes section as the one on iOS this should work fine by default if you do not rename your Quick Notes section and leave it as the default name, Quick Notes. They absolutely should be merged and they're run by the same team at microsoft.
